The pig has a history of chronic hematuria. The physical examination showed trouble walking and overweight.
Therapy has included Amoxicillin and Rimadyl.
None provided.
Ultrasound ExaminationThe liver shows an inhomogeneous texture in its parenchyma. No masses noted within the liver parenchyma. The gall bladder is mildly distended, and its walls are not thickened or hyperechoic. The gall bladder does contain some sludge material. The spleen shows an inhomogeneous texture in its parenchyma -- no masses noted.
The left and right kidneys are similar in size, shape, and echotexture. Each kidney shows an inhomogeneous texture in the renal cortex. Cortical cyst is present in the right kidney. No masses or calculi were noted in either kidney.
The urinary bladder is distended with urine and contains some urine sediment material -- no masses or calculi noted.
The stomach, small intestine, and colon are normal. The pancreas is not seen.
A large mixed echogenic tubular-shaped structure (right uterine horn) is noted in the right cranial to caudal abdomen. Multiple cystic-like lesions and/or cavitations are noted in the uterine horn.
Based on the clinical information that you have provided me, my clinical diagnosis is existing uterine disease -- most likely primary neoplasia of the right uterine horn but pyometra cannot be ruled out.
There was no obvious evidence of urolithiasis noted during this abdominal ultrasound study. The likely origin of the reported chronic blood in the urine is from the uterus and not from the urinary tract.
